Wonders from the Western ghats

Amboli - Shyadri Ghats / Hills

The lush-green rainforests of the Western Ghats, the Sahyadri Hills in Amboli, mist-cloaked and moss-ridden most of the time in the year, it unassumingly unexplored. Amboli isn’t a chart burster, but that’s precisely a part of its charm.

Walking in the misty winding pathways of Amboli rainforests and searching the endemic frogs, snakes and insects is an expedition by itself. They are in abundance but locating them is the biggest challenge, you need a pair of trained eye for the same. The naturalist of Whistling Woods or in that way Hemant Ogale, the owner, himself in a big source of inspiration.

Malabar pit viper or Bedome’s cat snake or Green vine or a Bronzeback tree snake will definitely intrigue any herpetologist. Amphibian habitat is also at its peak during rainy season. Photographing the Bush frog eggs in knee deep swamp or capturing a Malabar frog amidst heavy rains (taking care of your gears too) or spotting an Amboli bush frog in the wet foliage gives an ethereal feeling. The photographs below are just a small representation of the extensive bio-diversity of a typical rainforest.
