Colors of Dandeli

Old Magazine House, Ganeshgundi, Karnataka

While my interest on doing bird photography started growing, there was a concept of ‘hide photography’ was increasingly getting controversial in our birding circuit. As usual, not believing the hearsay I decided to see it on my own. That’s when I stumbled upon ‘Old Magazine House’ one of the most trusted places of bird photography in Dandeli. And I set out for the experience along with my friend, philosopher and guide in the photography world, Shiladitya RowChowdhury.

Believe me with this experience of photographing so many forest birds in proximity and watching their behaviour was just like a ‘National geography’ learning for us. The drongo coming and seeing the environment and giving a call to the other birds saying it now safe to come and the then orchestrated arrivals and departure of the birds really mesmerised me. The enigmatic beauty of an Indian Paradise flycatcher (white morph) or the sharing of the water body by a White Eye and a White bellied blue flycatcher was just endorsing nature’s mystery towards coexistence. So, the myth of ‘hide photography’ was broken completely and I look forward to do many more in future, it’s a beautiful experience of photographing behaviours of birds without disturbing them.
